Well well well, it seems that Dodge has finally revealed their snake that they have been so private about (that’s what she said). DebutingĀ on the first press day of the New York Auto Show, this car stole the show.

Bringing up the competition against the likes of Chevy’s Corvette ZR1 and Ford’s GT500 or 302 Boss, the Viper features an 8.4-liter V10 engine. This engine pumps out 640 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. An automatic is not available. Normally, the Viper was the truest of the true for automotive racing machines. However, traction control and stability control are standard on all Vipers. However, the driver can turn off these assists to an extent, or completely disengage them. Cruise control is now standard for the first time, a feature that was highly debated, but ultimately approved by R&D at Dodge.

Yet have we heard how the SRT division will deal with the thigh-burning sideskirts that house the exhaust pipes. I emailed a PR representative, and even he did not know. However, Dodge has probably figured that issue out by now.

The interior is one of the largest improvements of the car. Now actually luxurious, thanks to some pieces from Ferrari, the interior has been updated due to some complaints from owners in the past. There is a new LCD screen, similar to one found in the Nissan GT-R, that displays important info. The center dash cluster can be configured in a different manner, all of which the driver has the power to chose. If you chose to have the tachometer shift warning active, when the computer determines the appropriate shift RPM, a large red snake appears inside the tachometer.

Also featured was the Forza Motorsport 4 Dodge Viper, which was the product of a combined project with the video game company, Turn 10. This Viper will be running in the American Le Mans Series later on. More details to follow soon, as well as some pictures.
